K-9 Unit
The UFPD has responded to the need for increased security precautions
at many of the special events that take place on the university
campus with the formation of its first K-9 unit. The K-9 team, consisting
of Sergeant Scott Summers and German Shepherd "Kim," has
been specially trained and certified in the search and detection
of explosive devices. Sergeant Summers has been with the University
Police Department's Patrol Division since 1996, and Kim is a four-year-old
pedigree German Shepherd imported from Europe specifically for this
purpose.

To arrange interviews and photo-ops of the K-9 team contact Captain Jeff Holcomb at 392-1409, or after hours at 392-1111. Captain Holcomb can also be reached via e-mail at jholcomb@admin.ufl.edu.
